Have you ever thought about playing lawn
bowls? If so then why not come along to the green one evening and meet some of
the members who enjoy playing this most friendly of games.
Unfortunately Bowls has the reputation of being an old man's game because most
people take it up after they have given up the more energetic sports. Once they
start bowling they all say, "I wish I had started this game earlier in
life". However whatever your age you are welcome to come and try it out for
yourself because in this day and age more and more young people are
participating and enjoying themselves on the bowling green.
Newport Pagnell Bowls Club is a thriving and successful 6 rink outdoor bowls
club formed in 1905, situated in a beautiful and picturesque setting within
Castle Meadow off Tickford Street. The entrance is found just before crossing
over the famous "Iron Bridge" on the right, looking towards Newport
Pagnell High Street.
We
are a mixed Club, with over 60 men and 30 ladies each with their own Club
Offices. The outdoor season usually runs from the beginning of May to the end of
September and we offer both the new and experienced bowler the opportunity to
play in a full and entertaining season of Outdoor Bowls.
For anyone new to the game, the club has two nationally qualified instructors
who will show you the basics of the game and help you develop into an
experienced bowler. Please do not worry about equipment as the club has several
sets of bowls for newcomers to use.
The club has a busy match fixture list operating throughout the entire season,
with competitive but friendly matches with other local clubs. We also run
a Tuesday afternoon league through the season where members can enjoy a friendly
but competitive afternoons play with its own trophies at the end of the season.
For the more experienced player the club gives the opportunity to play in
National EBA and other affiliated matches together with local league and cup
selections. We also have our own internal competitions running throughout the
season with singles, pairs, triples, and novice trophies presented at the end of
the year.
The Club also has its own social committee and regular social events are run
throughout the year and also during the closed season. We run social evenings in
our clubhouse which has a licensed bar for members, darts, dominoes and cards or
for just a social relaxing chat.
We always welcome new members anytime and
anyone interested in finding out more about the Club can contact our New Members
secretary Bill Macaulay on 01908 611359 or alternatively our club secretary
Steve Goff on 01908 613696.
So the invitation is there. Come along and receive some free instruction to see
whether or not you wish to develop a taste for this delightful and sociable
game.
